RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY

Learning about your brand and the scope of the project is a crucial first step. Discussion will include goals for the project and defining project success.

IMAGE BUCKETS

For visual representation of the research, image buckets help gain inspiration and focus in on imagery surrounding the brand, for example, if a project for a kayak company was in the works, here is a small sample of what some of the images from the image bucket might look like.

STYLESCAPES

Combining the research and discovery phase with image buckets, stylescapes are then created to hone in on the project goal. There are many different directions a logo design project could go. These concepts are always referred back to the discussions during the discovery phase.

SKETCHING

Upon selecting a design direction from the stylescapes, sketching begins. It may be a little bit “Old School”, but pencil and paper is the quickest way to get ideas out.

DESIGN

From concept to reality, a logo is born. Many mistake the logo as “the brand”, however a logo is only a means of identification. “A logo is the period at the end of the sentence, not the sentence itself.” ~Sagi Haviv of Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv. “The Brand” is how your customers feel about your company. A logo should be appropriate to the company’s industry, distinctive and memorable, as well as simple.
